Dunk Island
Dunk Island is one of the best holiday destinations on the Great Barrier Reef. The island itself is located close to the mainland just east of the coastal holiday town of Mission Beach. A ferry service operates to Dunk island on a regular schedule from the Clump Point jetty and water taxis operate directly from the main beach. Dunk Island can also be accessed by air direct from Cairns. The island itself is a continental island and is quite large in size. There are magnificent beaches on the inshore side and a high peak that can be accessed via a scenic bushwalk.
The Dunk Island resort is located on a beautiful bay on the inshore side that has its own beach. This is the hub of watersports from the island of which there are many. Jet skis, sailing catamarans, paddle skis and hire boats are available from the shore. Much of the resorts accommodation has frontage onto this beach which is one of the best places on the island to kick back and relax with a good book and a cold drink. Coconut palms line the foreshore and there are outdoor lounges and shade shelters. One of the great features of Dunk island is the number of activities that are offered. There is a great golf course and clubs can be hired on the island if you forget to bring your own. Tennis Courts, gymnasium, squash courts and plenty more mean that you and your kids can be entertained for days. There are three swimming pools, a kids club and acres of rain forest that encloses and hides the resort in a blanket of green foliage.
The best attraction on Dunk island is the health spa. Known as the Spa of peace and Plenty, it is situated in the rainforest and feature nine individual treatment rooms, steam room, vichy shower, massages and body treatments. Dunk Island also has a kids stay, play and eat free policy where children under twelve staying with an adult in existing bedding and eating from the kids buffet do not incur extra charges. All of this makes Dunk island one of the best family holiday destinations anywhere on the Queensland coast.
