Great Keppel Island
Great Keppel Island is different to most of the other Queensland Islands. It is the largest island in the Keppel Group which lies off the Queensland coast near Rockhampton. This group of islands is particularly scenic and the islands have some of the most beautiful bays and white sandy beaches anywhere in the state. Great Keppel Island has many holiday homes on it, as well as some smaller resorts. These are all located on the inshore side of the island and can be accessed via a ferry service from Rosslyn Bay boat harbour on the Capricorn Coast.
In the recent past, the major resort that has stood on the beachfront on Great Keppel Island for generations and is still strong in many peoples memories, has recently been demolished to make way for a brand new resort. The island is now owned by the Tower group of companies and negotiations with the local council are continuing regarding the scale of what tower will be able to build on the island. We will keep this website updated with regard to these negotiations as further information comes to hand. In the meantime, it is still business as usual for the other resorts on Great Keppel Island.
