Hamilton Island
The best island resort in the Whitsunday Islands is definitely Hamilton Island. Not only does it have the largest resort, it also has the most activities and the best facilities. Hamilton Island has a domestic airport, making it simple to get there from almost anywhere and when you do you will join in an island lifestyle unlike any other. Hamilton Island is probably more like a holiday town set on a beautiful island so there is always plenty to see and do. The first thing you will notice about Hamilton Island, when you get there, is both the amount and the quality of the accommodation. There is truly something for everyone. While some island resorts cater for a specific market, Hamilton Island can be all things for all people. Having arrived at the airport, you will be met by reception staff and whisked off to the main reception desk in the resort. On the way there you will start to get a glimpse of the huge amount of infrastructure on the island. The marina will be passed on your left and it is full of both private and charter craft. From here you can hire a bare boat and cruise among the Whitsunday Islands or you can go on a dinner cruise or maybe join a beautiful charter yacht for a day at Whitehaven beach. Around the shores of the marina is a shopping area with a pub, a number of restaurants and several boutiques. On the northern shore you will now be able to see the spectacular new Hamilton Island yacht club which has architecture reminiscent of the Sydney Opera House. Up over the hill and down towards Catseye beach and you will see on your left the Palm Bungalows set in a grove of coconut palms. These are the entry level accommodation on Hamilton Island. On your left, you will pass the wildlife sanctuary where you can have breakfast with a koala or buy some great Souvenirs.
A little further down the road on the left and right on the beachfront is the Beach Club resort and on the right is the multi story Reef View Hotel and the Whitsunday holiday apartments. The main reception is situated in the hotel. The reef view hotel feature glass external lifts so you can enjoy the view of the islands to the north as you go up to your room. The Whitsunday Holiday Apartments are located next door and overlook the beachfront and the swimming pools. This side of the island is littered with swimming pools, restaurants, bars and shopping facilities. Hamilton Island is now home to some of Australia's best luxury accommodation. On the northern tip of the island is Qualia resort. This is probably the best accommodation in the Whitsundays. Everything is five star and all meals are included in the tariff, right down to eating out in any of the islands many restaurants. A golf buggy is supplied with each room and the accommodation is in separate bungalows set on the hillside overlooking the ocean. Each one is private from the rest and each features a private plunge pool. No Children are allowed at Qualia. if you want to bring the family to Hamilton Island and you want to stay in total luxury, you have plenty of choices. The Yacht club Villa's are sensational and then there is the Luxury Collection or perhaps The Edge Apartments.
The list of things to do on Hamilton island has been increased of recent times. many annual event happen here that bring huge crowds. Hamilton Island race week and the Hamilton Island Cup are two examples of this. The new Hamilton Island Golf course can only be described as sensational. This is an 18 hole championship layout, designed by Peter Thompson and will rival any other golf course in the world. The views from the course are panoramic and take in almost all of the islands in the Whitsunday Archipelago, depending on which hole you are playing. The golf course has been built on Dent Island that is adjacent to Hamilton Island and the two are connected by a short but regular ferry service. Golf and accommodation packages are always available. Don't miss out on playing on this course as it will be the highlight of your stay and probably your golfing career as well.
